2014 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges Ranking: Boston Edition

(MIT rocked the rankings. Image via Shutterstock.) U.S. News & World Report released Tuesday its hotly debated Best Colleges ranking, now in its 30th year of panicking school administrators. Over the last three decades, enrollment statistics have been fudged, sat scores fluffed and miraculous turnarounds made, all to game the system in hopes of nabbing a top spot on the list. Per annual tradition, Boston-area colleges and universities reeled in the bragging rights. Nearly 1,800 schools nationwide are analyzed and ranked on up to 16 measures, including graduation and retention rates — the most heavily weighted factors in, what several describe as, U.S. News’ flawed methodology. Harvard came in second on the Best national universities list, losing only to ivy league competitor princeton. MIT also nabbed the seventh spot, holding steady to where the institution landed last year. As for the Best National Liberal Arts Colleges, three of the state’s schools made the cut: Williams (No. 1)
